THE SPIRITUALITY OF GREGORIAN CHANT

One of the most memorable things about this year's concert by the Sistine Choir in Westminster Cathedral was the singing of the Gregorian Chant. The exquisite shaping of the phrases and their dynamic control highlighted the spiritual aspect of the chant. I was listening to prayer in one of its purest forms. It was deeply moving and underlined the Church's view that Gregorian Chant is the ideal liturgical music. Why does chant have such a nuclear impact?
