I never cease to be amazed by the power, appeal and depth of music. Two recent incidents have underlined this and they both concern people suffering from Alzheimers. In the first I was approached by relatives of a lady who used to sing in one of my choirs in 1959. They were certain that my ex-chorister would benefit from hearing the music that we used to sing and they were looking for relevant CDs. The second concerned a singer who, in the 1960's, performed a Mass that I had arranged. A couple of months ago she heard a cassette of the piece and was able to sing the whole work from memory. I found both of these events deeply moving.
