How often have you heard this statement? It's a common reaction to new ideas and can be very destructive to progress. It displays a totally closed mindset and you need to discourage it immediately. New ideas can upset a group's sense of security and the wise choirmaster has to work out how to cope with this. When you take over a choir, it's a good idea to change nothing until you understand how the group works. There are often very good reasons, not immediately apparent, for doing things in an odd way.
