Last year Pope Benedict attended a concert in the Sistine Chapel in honour of Monsignor Domenico Bartolucci, Director of the Sistine Choir for more than forty years. In his speech in response to Maestro Bartolucci's opening remarks the Pope said: 'Venerable Maestro, you have always sought to make the most of sacred music as a vehicle for evangelisation. Through numerous concerts in Italy and abroad with the universal language of art, the Pontifical Choir conducted by you has thus co-operated in the mission of the Popes which is to disseminate the Christian message throughout the world."
